Early Years Free Entitlement Funding
In England, the Government offers funded childcare through the Early Years Free Entitlement. All children aged 3–4 years are entitled to 15 hours per week for 38 weeks a year (570 hours), known as the Universal Entitlement. Eligible working families may qualify for 30 hours per week (1,140 hours per year). Some 2-year-olds may also be eligible for 15 funded hours if their family meets specific criteria.
From September 2025, working parents will be able to access funded hours for children from 9 months old, subject to eligibility. Eligibility is based on parents’ working hours and income and includes both employed and self-employed parents.
Funding can only be claimed if children are attending by the local authority Headcount Day each term.
